HTML2EXEBy Tony Curro
HTML2EXE will convert a complete site, or just a page, into a single executable (EXE) file. The EXE file that you create with the unregistered version will only last for one day, and has a 100 file limit. The registered version will remove these limitations, as well as the nag screens. When you first start the program go to File|Open Home Page. A window will pop up where you select the directory, as well as the homepage. This is usually Index.HTM(L). The program will remember the file and directory used when you run it a second time. You can increase/decrease the font size from the toolbar if you wish. Since this is the actual page that you created with your HTML editor no changes should be necessary. We are now ready to put the site together by clicking on the compile button.
Compile options above. After you make your choices you build your site. After you press the compile button you will see the above screen. There are several options here to select. You can press the Check button to have HTML2EXE check that all links are valid. Select the output filename, or browse to a directory and type in the name of the file in the secondary window. Choose if you wish only the individual page, or the entire site compiled. Choose the compression method, browser configuration and buttons. now you are ready to build your site.
Errors that have been reported. Once you click on the Build icon your site will start to be compiled. A window will appear with a progress bar. When this is done you will see an error window, if there were any errors. Errors are not, in some cases, cause for worry. I have received quite a few where the information pointed to a graphic that is on a remote online site, like a search engine, which does not detract from the building of your pages. Another thing is having spaces between names ( MY IMAGE vs. MY_IMAGE). This can cause graphics not to load properly. The best thing to do is rename these types of files. I have been using HTML2EXE for the last few months. It is so easy to use. I offer a download created by it on my site. HTML2EXE supports animated GIFs, frames, etc. One thing it does not currently support is sound. I have been in touch with the author and he said that, in v2.1, there will be support for WAV and MID files. I am impressed with this program and recommended it to anyone who creates
web sites and wishes to duplicate or distribute it on floppy, CD-ROM, etc.
Visit the web site for more information, to download the demo, or to order
your copy.
